When Opportunity Knocks, Open the Door... August 13, 2014
My latest photographic opportunity came at the beginning of this week with an excursion to New York City and Brooklyn. It was made possible by an offer of a new photo buddy who was willing to not only put up with me but also walk around these great cities from 10 in the morning til 9 pm that night. We experienced not only the great sights and sounds of the Big Apple but had some great food and a few beers on top of that.... a great day!
We walked around Central Park, headed over to Grand Central Station and Time Square then finished the day by driving to Brooklyn to shoot the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. I would estimate we walked a good 10 miles or so.... my fatigued legs reminded me of that the next day.
The shots above are from Grand Central Station, a place I probably haven't been in over thirty years. I've tried to capture a little bit of the energy that's almost palpable as I walked around. I processed the shot with the American flag with three brackets and tone-mapped it in Photomatix, finally I put some finishing touches with the help of Color Efex Pro. The other three shots I used Topaz Adjust to bring out the fabulous details in the interior of this iconic building and finished them again with Color Efex Pro.
So, next time you have an opportunity to visit a special place, see a long lost friend be sure you answer that knock on the door and say yes. It might just be something special.
